Technology is helping when it comes to overcoming communication barriers in healthcare

Technology has greatly improved communication barriers in healthcare. The introduction of electronic health records and computer information systems in the health care setting has helped to reduce human errors and increased the accessibility of information. Electronic health records bring information from all sources such as doctor’s office and clinic together. Interdepartmental communication has improved due to availability of information systems. Information is fed into the computer and becomes available to all health care providers. Sometimes patients do not remember their medical and drug history and through technology this information can be retrieved. Communication barriers between health care professionals have also improved though use of pagers and cell phones.
